WakeMate developed personalized alarm clocks designed to synchronize with a user's body and their smartphone. This integration allowed the iPhone alarm to trigger at the optimal point in a user's REM cycle, aiming to provide a more natural and less disruptive waking experience. The system, which included a wristband, also offered comprehensive sleep analysis through its dedicated Analytics Platform.
Utilizing a technique called actigraphy, WakeMate analyzed sleep patterns. Actigraphy involves using an actigraph (the WakeMate wrist unit) worn on the wrist to continuously monitor movement. This motion data was then processed to identify sleep patterns and circadian rhythms, providing users with insights into their sleep quality. WakeMate received funding from the prominent startup accelerator, Y Combinator.
