Terark developed a novel storage engine designed to enhance the capabilities of databases and data systems. Their core innovation facilitated direct data searching on highly compressed datasets, achieving remarkable improvements in read performance—up to 200 times faster—and substantial storage savings, exceeding a tenfold reduction compared to established solutions like Google's LevelDB and Facebook's RocksDB. This technology allowed for greater scalability while reducing costs for big data applications. Terark successfully secured Alibaba as a paying customer and was a graduate of the Y Combinator program, demonstrating its potential and market validation.
