Pixate, a mobile application prototyping platform, was acquired by Google in July 2015. Founded in May 2012, Pixate aimed to empower designers and developers to rapidly create aesthetically pleasing, native mobile applications. Their core offering, the Pixate Engine for iOS, incorporated a CSS-based styling engine, a sophisticated graphics rendering system, and a subset of SVG for scalable vector graphics support. A key feature was the ability to modify CSS-based styles at runtime, with on-demand downloading and updating capabilities. Version 1.0 of the Pixate Engine for iOS was available for purchase or trial via their website. Pixate participated in the Y Combinator Summer 2012 batch and secured initial funding through a successful Kickstarter campaign in the same year.
