Impactive, previously known as Outvote, emerged in 2017 with the support of Y Combinator and Higher Ground Labs. Initially conceived as a tool to bolster Democratic voter turnout, Impactive has evolved into a comprehensive platform designed to facilitate distributed organizing for a wide array of campaigns and causes. During the 2018 midterm elections, volunteers leveraged Impactive to connect with over a million voters. The platform experienced substantial growth in 2020, driven by the heightened demands of that election cycle. Impactive has collaborated with over 500 clients across the nation, enabling volunteers to send over 100 million text messages on behalf of organizations such as Planned Parenthood, the DCCC, SEIU, Community Change, When We All Vote, and Greenpeace, as well as numerous political campaigns. Impactive's work has garnered recognition in prominent publications, including The New York Times, Washington Post, TechCrunch, and Fast Company. In 2021, Impactive aimed to broaden its platform's reach to encompass nonprofit organizations, advocacy groups, and other sectors, marking a pivotal phase in shaping the platform's future direction while upholding its progressive values and developing a feature-rich environment to expand its impact.
