Epicenter is developing an open-source, local-first application ecosystem designed to empower users with complete data ownership and control. The core concept revolves around storing all user data, including notes, transcripts, and chat histories, within a single, accessible folder comprising plain text and SQLite databases. This unified memory is shared across all Epicenter tools, such as text editors and personal assistants, fostering seamless interoperability and a consistent user experience. Users retain the freedom to manipulate, analyze, and host their data as they see fit, leveraging tools like grep or Obsidian, or choosing their preferred hosting solution. Epicenter's vision is to create a personal workspace where users own their data, select their own AI models, and replace isolated applications with open, interoperable alternatives, all while upholding authenticity and promoting a free and open-source environment.
