Draft was conceived as a simplified online word processor integrating version control capabilities. It aimed to provide users with clean, distinct draft saves, moving away from the often confusing autosave systems prevalent in other platforms. The service facilitated clear version control for collaborative writing, allowing multiple users to track changes effectively. Draft also offered seamless importing from widely used file storage services like Dropbox and Evernote. A distinctive feature was its integrated editing service, providing users with an all-in-one writing and refinement solution.

Developed by Nathan Kontny, a solo founder who previously co-founded Inkling and Cityposh, Draft prioritized the writing experience. The web application featured a visually appealing interface, presenting text in a large, plain-text font against a light-gray background, creating a distraction-free writing environment.
