Cowlar

Cowlar was designed as a data-as-a-service solution, acting as a 'Fitbit' for dairy cows, aimed at empowering dairy producers to enhance their operational efficiency and overall herd well-being. The core concept involved attaching a sensor around a cow's neck to meticulously track vital metrics such as temperature, activity levels, and behavioral patterns. Cowlar then processed this raw data, transforming it into actionable insights and recommendations delivered directly to farmers. These recommendations were specifically tailored to address key areas, including optimizing reproduction rates, enabling the immediate detection of diseases, and maximizing milk yield. Furthermore, the system offered an added layer of security by detecting and alerting farmers to potential instances of theft. Cowlar was conceived to be user-friendly, cost-effective, and easily integrated into existing farm operations. Its robust, waterproof design and extended battery life (6 months) minimized maintenance requirements. To ensure accessibility for all users, Cowlar supported multilingual text message alerts and automated phone calls for farmers with literacy challenges.
