Bump

Bump, a pioneering mobile application that enabled users to exchange contact information and photos by physically bumping their phones together, was acquired by Google in 2013. At its peak, Bump boasted over 150 million installations, establishing itself as one of the most popular mobile apps of its time. Following the acquisition, the Bump and Flock applications were discontinued. However, an unreleased project called Photoroll, developed by the Bump team, served as the foundation for Google Photos. The original Bump team subsequently led Google Photos from its inception, scaling it to a user base exceeding one billion individuals. Flock, another application developed by the team, was a semi-automated photo-sharing platform that intelligently identified photos taken with specific friends and automatically created private, shared albums. Founded in 2009 and based in Mountain View, California, Bump received funding from prominent venture capital firms including Y Combinator, Sequoia Capital, and Andreessen Horowitz.
